Dear Bear: Why does everyone hate the small interactions?
:|
I really hate that face everyone makes when you make eye contact and it's like "I wish we weren't having this interaction but since we are, I will make the first and lowest effort expression possible to show you how much I don't like this. You know the face, it's like lips hidden, slight eyebrow raise and a quarter second of eye contact before going back to ignoring each other.
We need to go back. Over the last ~10 years, why did learn to hate the small interactions?
I lost steam.
I thought about what I consider a small interaction and the first thought I had was checking out at the grocery store, and that interaction remains unchanged. I regularly see people talking with the cashier and enjoying it.
I am going to try to change the world. No more small interactions that could've been better. I will make an effort to say anything, whether that's good morning or maybe complementing their shirt. It will make both of smile and that is a huge net positive.
I hope you will do the same.
Sincerely, NPC
